PRESIDENT CLINTON TO PRESENT BALDRIGE QUALITY AWARD
TO FOUR COMPANIES ON DEC. 19

President Clinton will present the 1997 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award to four U.S. companies for their outstanding achievements in quality and business excellence. The companies are: 3M DentalProducts Division, St. Paul, Minn; Solectron Corp., Milpitas, Calif.; Merrill Lynch Credit Corp., Jacksonville, Fla.; and Xerox Business Services, Rochester, N.Y.

Reporters are invited to attend the ceremony as well as to schedule one-on-one interviews with company executives and others.

Date: Friday, Dec. 19, 1997
Place: Sheraton Washington Hotel, 2660 Woodley Road, NW, Washington, D.C. (across from Woodley Park/Zoo Metro stop)
Times: One-on-One Interviews 9:15 a.m.-10:15 a.m. - Reporters can schedule interviews (in 15-minute blocks) with one or more companies by calling Michael Newman (see above) by 12 noon, Dec. 17.

Ceremony 11 a.m.-Noon - The doors to the ceremony will open at 9:45 a.m. and close at 10:45 a.m. No one will be permitted to enter after the doors close.

Reporters must check in at the "Media" table, located near the entrance to the Cotillion Ballroom, to be escorted to interviews and into the ceremony. Credentials (news media badge with photo or a photo ID with a business card) must be presented to enter the ceremony.
