Activities

BIRTHPLACE UNIT

  • Self-guided and informal ranger led introductory tours of the Visitor Center
  • An eighteen (18) minute movie, “Lincoln: The Kentucky Years” shown every thirty (30) minutes on the hour and half hour
  • Self-guided tour of park grounds, including the Memorial Building and Sinking Spring
  • Hike the Big Sink Trail approximately one (1) mile, adjacent to the picnic area, with wayside exhibits available to interpret points of interest, brochures available at Visitor Center or take a stroll along the three tenths (.3) mile Boundary Oak Trail, adjacent to the Boundary Oak Site  
  • Picnic using one of the eighteen (18) picnic tables with accompanying grills situated on concrete pads; a covered pavilion is available on site if needed
  • Bird and wildlife watching, check with Information Desk for best times and places

BOYHOOD HOME UNIT AT KNOB CREEK

  • Staffed daily 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM from Memorial Day until Labor Day 
  • Hike the strenuous three (3) mile Overlook Trail for a panoramic view of the valley, brochures available at Ranger Station or Visitor Center  
  • Walk along Knob Creek, through wooded areas or across fields where a young Abraham Lincoln played, toiled and learned. Picnic using one of the eight (8) picnic tables situated on a concrete pad
  • Bird and wildlife watching

Did You Know?
The Knob Creek Farm where the Lincoln family lived from 1811 to 1816 was added to the National Park Service by donation on November 6, 2001. The site was purchased in April 2001 with money raised by several organizations in Kentucky, the National Park Trust, and many others.
