JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAM Children are encouraged to participate in the Junior Ranger Program. Program objectives are:
- Help children learn about Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President
- Develop in the child an appreciation of our natural and cultural resources
- Encourage children to learn more about our heritage
Program booklet and patch are available for purchase at the Birthplace Unit Visitor Center.
BUILD YOUR OWN LOG CABIN
Children of all ages can built their own log cabin using Lincoln Logs.
- Lincoln Logs touch-table; use the miniature logs to build your own cabin
- Tour the recreated pioneer life style cabin in the Birthplace Unit Visitor Center
- See how early settlers build their homes and the tools they used to tame the land
FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAM/ACTIVITY
Join a park ranger in fun and learning that the whole family can enjoy. Programs pertain to:
- Wildflowers
- Trees and leaves
- Birds
- And much more
Programs offered seasonally at the Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek. Check in at the Ranger Station for details.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Other activities at the Park include guided tours, and the movie, Lincoln: The Kentucky Years, to engage the public's interest in the Park's cultural and natural history. Special programs are available to groups, call for reservations.
TRAVELING TRUNKS
The "Traveling Trunk" program is available for use by schools and educational groups. Trunks contain curriculum guides, videos, games, toys, period clothing, and many other items representative of Lincoln's life. Trunks can be reserved by calling (270) 358-3137. Borrowers must pay mailing costs.
WEB RANGERS
The National Park Service has instituted a web-based program called Web Ranger where children can have fun and earn awards in the Junior Ranger programs.
