Fishing: Anglers try their luck along the entire 50 miles of the Greys River. Bailey Lake, covering 40 acres, is the largest lake on the District, and is accessed by a trailhead from McCain Meadows. Another scenic lake, accessible by vehicle, is Murphy Lake, about 16 miles from Alpine up the Greys River Road.

Camping: Five developed campgrounds along the Greys River and two on the Star Valley front offer basic amenities and a variety of attractions, from river frontage to lake access or trailheads. All sites are first-come, first-served. Dispersed camping is also popular for those willing to bring in their own water and haul out their own garbage. CAUTION: All campsites are located in bear country. Visitors are strongly encouraged to practice clean camping techniques and to store attractants in a manner that makes them unavailable to bears.

Cabins/Guard Stations: The Greys River District has 4 rustic cabins available for rent on the District. The cabins all have a 7-day stay limit per party and rent for about $40 per day. The cabins are available year round, however winter access is by snowmobile only, and fall/spring access depends on road and weather conditions. Please call the District office to check on local conditions and access. The McCain Guard Station has an outdoor privy, a propane cook stove and heat, propane lights, and no water. The Cazier Guard Station has a wood stove, propane cook stove, refrigerator, and solar lights. The Deer Creek Cabin has a propane cook stove, propane heat, lights and a refrigerator. The Meadows Guard Station has a wood stove, propane cook stove, lights and a refrigerator. Cazier, Deer Creek and Meadows all have indoor bathrooms for the summer and an outdoor privy. Reserve the cabin by visiting www.recreation.gov

Biking: Mountain biking along these steep ranges can be challenging, although a number of former logging roads also provide less-technical options as well. From the Star Valley front, try Wickiup Road off the Dry Creek access, or Willow Creek. Up the Greys River, Bear and Cabin Creek are fun two-tracks, or from the Little Greys, Bailey and West Bailey Creek trails give a long single-track loop.

Hiking: With 450 miles of hiking or horseback riding trails, picking favorites can be hard. Try the Wyoming Peak trail for a look from the highest point in the Wyoming Range at 11,363 feet. Or start just 5 miles from the District Office in Afton up scenic Swift Creek trail, with a ¾ mile diversion to the Periodic Spring, a rare 'cold water geyser' that cycles on and off at 18 minute intervals.

Snowmobiling: Trailheads at Alpine and the Smith's Fork entrance (15 miles south of Afton on Hwy 89) provide access to over 150 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and thousands of acres of play areas in world-class powder. Check the avalanche report before heading out!

Kayaking: The lower stretch of the Greys River offers excitement to kayakers when the river flows are high in the spring. Many put in at the Squaw Flat area, just 4 miles up from Alpine.

Hunting: Hunters pursue elk, mule deer, moose and black bear each fall. Ruffed and blue grouse hunters also find plenty of birds on the district. Even vegetarians can hunt for serviceberries or spring morels and come away with a meal.

Cross Country Skiing: The District grooms two 'non-motorized use only' areas at Salt Pass on the south end of the District, with parking just off Hwy 89. The west side loop is the more challenging. Ski touring or telemarking from these areas will yield postcard vistas of Rocky Mountain winter wonderlands.
