Annual meeting of the TSRU, 2008.

The Tuberculosis Surveillance and Research Unit (TSRU) held its last annual meeting in Helsinki, Finland, from 1 to 4 April 2008. Topics of current interest for TB research and new research projects were presented and discussed in depth. A paper in Int J Tuberc Lung Dis. 2009 Feb;13(2):177-80 summarizes some of the highlights which may be of interest to epidemiologists and managers active in the field of TB.

Effectiveness of TB contact tracing among migrants and foreign-born population

A literature review was performed to assess the effectiveness of tuberculosis (TB) contact tracing among migrants and the foreign-born population with emphasis on the European Union.

 

Findings emphasize that foreign-born people from high-incidence countries are at high risk of latent infection.

Landmark international meeting on tuberculosis opens in Brazil

23 March 2009— Rio de Janeiro — More than 1300 people gathered at the Centro de Convenções SulAmérica today for the opening of the Stop TB Partners’ Forum. At a time when the outlook for improving health in developing countries appears challenged by the worldwide economic crisis, participants at this forum have joined forces to renew efforts on reducing the toll of TB worldwide.
