The goal of the UCLA National Centers of Excellence in Women's Health is to coordinate clinical care, education and research in women's health at UCLA, and to promote academic leadership by women, to serve as a national model for academic health centers.
UCLA possesses an integrated delivery system of women's health services which includes units dedicated to women in areas of general internal medicine and primary care, general surgery, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, radiology, and psychiatry. UCLA serves one of the most ethnically diverse populations in the nation, includes a network of community clinics, and is allied with the Huntington Provider Group, a large IPA which contracts for over 300,000 managed care lives. Also allied with UCLA is the nation's largest free clinic, the Venice Family Clinic. The Iris Cantor-UCLA Women's Education and Resource Center provides "one stop shopping" for information about women's health programs at UCLA.
UCLA is recognized as a national leader in research. Women's health research profits from strong ties between the schools of medicine and public health, the affiliation of many faculty with the Rand Corporation in the area of health services research, and the participation of many internationally recognized scientists in diverse areas of investigation.
Nationally recognized for innovative medical school curriculum, faculty of the UCLA medical school have created curricular materials on women's health which are used across the nation. In addition, UCLA ranks among the leading medical schools in terms of numbers of women in leadership positions.
The UCLA National Centers of Excellence in Women's Health website provides information for the public, health care professionals, and members of the academic community. Highlights include:
