Cheney Visits Iraq, Officials Laud Historic Vote
WASHINGTON, Dec. 18, 2005 – Vice President Dick Cheney made a surprise visit to Iraq today to hail the country's successful Dec. 15 parliamentary election in which more than 70 percent of Iraqis -- 11 million-plus voters -- participated. Meanwhile, the vice president's wife, an historian, took to the airwaves today to provide historical context for the elections. Story
Polling Center Incident Shows Iraqis' Spirit
WASHINGTON, Dec. 16, 2005 – The top U.S. military officer in Iraq said he knew Iraqi officials and security forces had matters well in hand in the days prior to the election. "Everywhere that I went, I left with the feeling that we were dealing with confident and competent Iraqi leaders who had this election under control," Army Gen. George W.
