Holi Festival at Brookhaven Lab Features Music, Song and Dance of India, Mar. 22

UPTON, NY - Holi, also called the "Festival of Colors," will be celebrated with performances in music, song and dance from India at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Saturday, March 22, beginning at 2 p.m., in Berkner Hall. Sponsored by the Lab's Indo-American Association, the event is open to the public. All visitors age 16 and over must bring a photo ID.

Holi is celebrated in northern India and Nepal during a time when the weather changes and people are susceptible to viruses. Thus, as part of their celebration, the people of India playfully throw colored powders at each other. These powders are made from medicinal herbs, symbolically protecting them from colds, flu, and other viral illnesses. Other celebrations, such as the Indian New Year, take place in different parts of India during this same season, and the Holi Festival at Brookhaven Lab celebrates all of these events with performances by both amateur and accomplished artists.

Tickets for the event are $5 for adults and $2 for children age 3 to 12. Children under age 3 are admitted to the event free of charge. Ticket prices include snacks (samosas and pizzas) served at the Laboratory's Recreation Hall after the show. Reservations must be made by March 15 to attend the event and payment made through PayPal by March 15; after that date, prices will increase by $1 per ticket. For more details about the event, and to reserve and purchase tickets, see [http://www.bnl.gov/bera/activities/iaa/Holi2008] http://www.bnl.gov/bera/activities/iaa/Holi2008.

Call 631 344-4805 or 631 821-5902 for more information. The Laboratory is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the LI Expressway.
