Nanoscience Workshop at Brookhaven National LaboratoryEVENT: The U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory is organizing a workshop to describe Brookhaven's future nanoscience research, to discuss preliminary plans for a major nanoscience research facility at Brookhaven, and to gather input and feedback from potential users of the facility. WHEN: March 8-9, 2002 WHERE: Brookhaven National Laboratory, located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one and a half miles north of Exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway. DETAILS: The proposed BNL nanocenter will be dedicated to the study of materials at the scale of the nanometer -- a billionth of a meter. The aim of the research program will be to tailor the chemical and physical responses of nanoscale functional materials. BNL is developing the center under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Basic Energy Sciences. Workshop speakers will include: Patricia Dehmer, Russell Bessette, U.S. Representative Felix Grucci U.S. Representative Sherwood Boehlert, Venkatesh Narayanamurti, Randal Isaac, Tom Russell, In addition, a multidisciplinary group of materials researchers will discuss topics including nanoscience in novel functional materials, catalytic systems, molecular materials, and magnetics. The complete workshop program, registration information, and lodging and local travel information are available at the Nanocenter website. Media representatives interested in attending should contact Karen McNulty Walsh at kmcnulty@bnl.gov or Peter Genzer at genzer@bnl.gov.
