Diverse Projects from Seven Schools are Top Winners at Brookhaven Lab's 2007 Elementary School Science Fair

UPTON, NY - Almost 500 science projects from 114 Suffolk County schools were entered in the 2007 Elementary School Science Fair, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory. The Laboratory's Office of Educational Programs coordinated the fair, which was held at the Laboratory on May 5, and Brookhaven scientists and local elementary school teachers judged the projects.

Science fair winners

Medals were awarded for the first-place winner at each grade level. The winners are:

  • Ricky Frosch, kindergarten, Connetquot Central School District, for his project titled "Hot Wheels/Cold Wheels"
  • Kailey O'Donnell, first grade, Sachem Central School District, for "Saving My Snow Bunnies"
  • Rae Specht, second grade, Laurel Hill School (private school, Setauket), for "Does Age Affect Memory?"
  • Aidan Dwyer, third grade, Northport-East Northport Union Free School District, for "What Insect Wings are Designed Best?"
  • Spring Yu, fourth grade, Shoreham-Wading River Central School District, for "Strong Ice"
  • Olivia Gassner, fifth grade, South Country Central School District, for "Bows N' Bels"
  • Nathaniel D'Agati, sixth grade, Miller Place Union Free School District, for "Acid Oceans"
