Rowe, (631) 344-5056 From Ants to Yo-Yos: Brookhaven Lab's 2005 Elementary School Science FairMay 13, 2005 The seven first-place winners of Brookhaven Lab's 2005 Elementary School Science Fair created diverse projects, from describing the food preferences of ants to prescribing the best yo-yo string. The students' projects were among more than 500 entered in the contest by 116 Suffolk County schools. Brookhaven Lab scientists and local elementary school teachers judged the projects, based on scientific thought, creativity, thoroughness, and clarity.
The first-place winners for each grade category are named with their projects, schools, and school districts below: Kindergarten - Gregory Rosascio First grade - Benjamin Schorn Second grade - Quillian Martin Third grade - Matthew McKeon Fourth grade - Patrick Vita Fifth grade - Alex Adams (Not Pictured) Sixth grade - Michael Skinner Each of the first-place winners was awarded a medal, and banners were awarded to their schools.
