Student Winners in Brookhaven Lab’s Science Fair

Sachem Central School District
Two Sachem Central School District students, Danielle Curren, a kindergartener at Tamarac Elementary School; and Megan Horber, a second-grader at Gatelot Avenue Elementary School , won first place for their grade levels at Brookhaven National Laboratory’s 2003 Elementary School Science Fair. Danielle’s project, called “Cuddling Will Keep You Warm,” and Megan’s experiment, named “Soaking Seeds,” were among 485 projects from over 100 Suffolk County schools that were entered in the fair. Brookhaven scientists and local elementary school teachers judged the projects, based on scientific thought, creativity, thoroughness and clarity.
Raynor Country Day School
Schuyler

National Laboratory’s 2003 Elementary School Science Fair.
Schuyler’s project, called “Goldilocks and the Six Lima Beans,”
was among 485 projects from over 100 Suffolk County schools that
were entered in the fair. Brookhaven scientists and local
elementary school teachers judged the projects, based on
scientific thought, creativity, thoroughness and clarity.
Northport-East Northport School District
Two Northport-East Northport School District students, Austin Stack, a third-grader at Dickinson Avenue Elementary School; and Maeve Dwyer, a fourth-grader at Ocean Avenue Elementary School, won first place for their grade levels at Brookhaven National Laboratory’s 2003 Elementary School Science Fair. Austin’s project, called “Diabetes and Carbohydrates,” and Maeve’s experiment, named “Getting the Wings Wright!” were among 485 projects from over 100 Suffolk County schools that were entered in the fair. Brookhaven scientists and local elementary school teachers judged the projects, based on scientific thought, creativity, thoroughness and clarity.
Wading River Elementary School
Melanie
Yovino, a fifth-grader at Wading River Elementary School, won
first place for her grade level at Brookhaven National
Laboratory’s 2003 Elementary School Science Fair. Melanie’s
project, called “Does Color Hinder or Help Short Term Memory?”
was among 485 projects from over 100 Suffolk County schools that
were entered in the fair. Brookhaven scientists and local

Jessica
Schiesser, a sixth-grader at Elwood Middle School, won first
place for her grade level at Brookhaven National Laboratory’s
2003 Elementary School Science Fair. Jessica’s project, called
“Are Backpacks Too Heavy?” was among 485 projects from over 100
Suffolk County schools that were entered in the fair. Brookhaven
scientists and local elementary school teachers judged the
