Harriett G. Jenkins Predoctoral Fellowship Program
Program Description
The Harriett G. Jenkins Predoctoral Fellowship Program provides full-time underrepresented graduate students in science, technology and education with financial support for their education in NASA-related disciplines. Students are selected for a fellowships that include an annual 10-week, hands-on research experience at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) or a NASA Center. Fellowship tenure is three years for doctorate-seeking candidates or two years for candidates seeking a master's degree or Ph.D. degree in the NASA-related fields specified below:

- Computers/Computer Science
- Earth Sciences
- Engineering
- Environmental Sciences
- Life Sciences
- Material Sciences
- Mathematics
- Physical Science
- Physics
- Science Education
The mission of the program is to increase the number of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities participating in mathematics, science, engineering, technology disciplines. Up to 20 Fellows will be selected annually to receive support for graduate education leading to doctoral degrees in NASA-related disciplines.
The program is designed for women and minorities students at any university or college engaged in the study of science, mathematics, engineering and technology. Fellows are provided with a stipend of $16,000 for the time spent at a NASA facility during the summer via a research mini-grant. There is additional support for tuition (up to $8500) and travel expenses. The program is administered by the United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation.
Eligibility Requirements
Jenkins Predoctoral Fellowships are open only to individuals of underrepresented ethnicity, gender, and or disability who are, at the time of application, citizens of the United States. Students must be enrolled or accepted to an accredited master's or predoctoral program in a NASA-related discipline. Fellowships are awarded to applicants that have been accepted into an accredited masters or doctorate program. Doctoral students with advanced standing from any institution of higher education, or who have taken (written and/or oral) a Doctoral Qualifying Examination are ineligible.
