OSHA, Georgia Tech and Georgia Department of Labor Alliance Will Assist Georgia Small Business Safety Programs
Alliance Signing Ceremony Set for Mon., Jan. 9, in Atlanta

ATLANTA -- The three Georgia offices of the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); the Georgia Department of Labor; and the Georgia Institute of Technology, Safety, Health and Environmental Technology Division, have formed an alliance to promote safety and health for small construction and general industry businesses. A signing ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Jan. 9, 2006, at the Georgia Tech Research Institute Conference Center.

The alliance features free safety and health training for small business owners and employees. Training and education efforts will address safe work practices for work zones; electrical operations; power tools; personal protective equipment; trenching and excavating; fall protection, and roofing operations. Safety professionals will teach classes in both English and Spanish.

The alliance will also focus on reducing worker injuries, illnesses and deaths by developing and implementing programs to recognize and abate workplace hazards.
