Through the Alliance, OSHA and Chemical Reactivity Hazards Management Alliance will work together to provide their members, customers, contacts and others involved in the manufacture, distribution, use and storage of chemicals with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect communities and employees' health and safety through better identification and management of chemical reactivity hazards (CRH). The Alliance's goals include:

Training and education:
  • Jointly develop and deliver training addressing chemical reactivity hazards, to be delivered in conferences, meetings, OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers, or through distance learning.
Outreach and communication:
  • Develop and disseminate information through print and electronic media, including electronic assistance tools and links from OSHA's and the signatories' web sites.
  • Collaborate with other Alliances on specific issues and projects on the identification and management of chemical reactivity hazards that are addressed and developed through the Alliance Program.
Promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:
  • Convene or participate in forums, round table discussions, or stakeholder meetings on chemical reactivity hazards to help forge innovative solutions in the workplace or to provide input on safety and health issues.

  • December 4-6, 2006: EPA Region III 2006 Chemical Accident Prevention/Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Hazmat Spills Conference, Valley Forge Convention Center, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
    • Nicholas DeJesse, Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, Region III, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Regional Office, USDOL-OSHA, staffed the OSHA and Chemical Reactivity Hazards Management Alliance exhibit booth.
  • April 27, 2006: CCPS Technical Steering Committee Meeting Orlando, Florida.
    • Lee Anne Jillings, Director, Office of Outreach Services and Alliances, USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation on OSHA’s Alliance Program and the OSHA and Chemical Reactivity Hazards Management Alliance. In addition, Michael L. Marshall, P.E., Program Coordinator, Process Safety Services, Directorate of Enforcement Programs, USDOL-OSHA, provided an update on OSHA's enforcement program activities.

  • January 13, 2006: Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) Technical Steering Committee Meeting, Hyatt Houston Intercontinental Airport, Houston, Texas.
    • "Managing Chemical Reactivity Hazards: A Workshop for Non-Chemists," This course was organized and sponsored by the OSHA and Chemical Reactivity Hazards Management Alliance. It was designed for small chemical manufacturers, warehouse facilities, distributors and batch processors. It provided information on chemical reactivity hazards and strategies and tools for identifying and preventing reactivity accidents at manufacturing facilities. In addition, representatives from The Dow Chemical Company, an Alliance Program participant, helped to develop the workshop. Additional sponsors of the workshop are the National Federation of Independent Business, also an OSHA Alliance Program participant, and the East Harris County Manufacturers Association.
  • October 25-26, 2005: Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center 2005 Symposium, Reed Arena, College Station, Texas.
    • Mark Briggs, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Region VI, Houston South Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, and James Shelton, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Region VI, Houston North Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, staffed the Alliance exhibit booth.
  • September 26, 2005: Chlorine Institute's 2005 Fall Meeting, Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia.
    • "Managing Chemical Reactivity Hazards: A Workshop for Non-Chemists," This course was organized and sponsored by the OSHA and Chemical Reactivity Hazards Management Alliance. It was designed for small chemical manufacturers, warehouse facilities, distributors and batch processors. It provided information on chemical reactivity hazards and strategies and tools for identifying and preventing reactivity accidents at manufacturing facilities. Twenty attendees participated in the workshop. In addition, representatives from The Dow Chemical Company, an Alliance Program participant, helped to develop the workshop and provided a speaker. Additional sponsors of the workshop are the National Federation of Independent Business, also an OSHA Alliance Program participant, and the Louisiana Chemical Association.
  • April 7, 2005: Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA) -- South Region Responsible Care® Regional Networking Meeting.
    • Marilyn Velez, Region IV, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Atlanta-West, Georgia Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation to the group about the Agency’s priorities, initiatives and compliance assistance resources at MFG Chemical, Inc. in Dalton, Georgia.
