1. Qingdao Sets Up Sailing Sub-Committee for 2008 Olympics

The Sailing Sub-Committee (Qingdao) of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) was established in Qingdao on June 11, 2003. The port city in Shandong Province will host sailing events with 11 gold medals for competition during the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.

The sub-committee is the first sport committee to be established, and will be responsible for all preparation work related to the Olympic sailing competitions. As a sub-committee of BOCOG, it is under the dual leadership of BOCOG and the Qingdao Municipal Government. It will also receive guidance form the Aquatic Sports Center of the China General Administration of Sports.

The sub-committee consists of 15 departments, including those for media and communications, sport, personnel training, engineering and environmental protection.

More blueprints for venues of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games have been unveiled. The expert panel of the organizing committee has picked two finalist plans for each venue - Shooting Range and Bicycle House.

11 architecture and design companies took part in this event, which began in March. The two designs selectedfor the Shooting Range are from Tsinghua University and Australia GSA Architect Agency. The other twodesigns, selected for the Bicycle House, are from Guandong Architect Academy and Germany Schumann Architects Association.

After soliciting comments from related departments, the final plans for each venue will be selected and released to the public. Construction is scheduled to begin late this year.
