Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I OPPOSE this proposed rule making labeling of bioengineered foods voluntary. I believe that as a consumer, I have the right to know as much as possible about the products that are being sold to me and my family, and truth in labeling is a big part of that. I want the ability to CHOOSE non-GE foods, because I believe that this--in the long run--will be the healthier choice for my family and the planet. I want you to REQUIRE those companies that would hide behind unproved and untested bioengineered foods to come clean about what is in their products. Other well-informed and intelligent countries have made the choice to not import bioengineered foods, and thus are assured that their food supply is free of the potential, as-yet-unknown hazards of GE foods. I insist, as a citizen of the richest nation on earth, that I be given the ability to make the same choice for my family, a choice I cannot make if your rule for voluntary labeling is allowed to stand unchallenged. Please stop coddling the agribusiness industries that you are supposed to police, and stand up for the rights of the food-consuming public to be informed.
