New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans Becomes a Center

Boston - Laurence D. Fitzmaurice proudly announces that, effective November 11, 2008, the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans will be known as the New England Center for Homeless Veterans. "This change reflects the ongoing evolution of the Shelter into a Center for the effective transition of formerly homeless Veterans back to the greater community as self sufficient individuals," Fitzmaurice said.

"While all the traditional shelter services remain, the Center provides robust clinical caseworker support and life skills and job training. The Center encompasses the in-house Veterans Training School which has a Job Retention Specialist, a Housing Specialist and works in collaboration with area colleges and universities."

The New England Center for Homeless Veterans is a non-profit organization and continues to be a facility that is substance-free and that empowers veterans in need with the tools to achieve independent living.

Headquartered in downtown Boston, the Center has served over 15,000 homeless veterans since its inception in 1989 and its service philosophy continues to be based on themes of sobriety, structure, and employment. The Center is recognized as one of the most effective private veteran's transition programs in the country.
