NLE is the federal government's main resource center for education information.

The National Library of Education--located at 400 Maryland Avenue, SW, Washington, D.C.-- is on two levels:  the Plaza Level (Level B) and the Sub-Basement Level (Level SB).  The Circulation Desk is available on the Plaza Level for ED customers wishing to check out materials.  The Reference Desk is also available on the Plaza Level for customers desiring assistance with reference materials. Our staff responds readily to phone, mail, and electronic inquiries with timely information on:

  • programs and activities in the Department of Education;
  • Department publications; education materials from other federal agencies;
  • services and resources available through ERIC, the research institutes, and the national education dissemination system; and
  • statistics through the National Center for Education Statistics.

Hours of Operation

Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except federal holidays.
