LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Approximately 100 medical personnel here worked around the clock last weekend, assisting with Hurricane Ike evacuees from the Galveston and Houston areas, who arrived at Port San Antonio Saturday and Sunday.

Master Sgt. Armando Mora (right), a dental technician assigned to the 59th Dental Group from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas is currently deployed in Zacatecoluca, El Salvador with the first ever ?All Dental? Readiness Training Exercise team. Master Sgt. Mora is the NCOIC for the mission and he is providing guidance on the operation to local El Salvador civilian dentists and a military dental technician. The joint USAF/El Salvador mission is scheduled to treat over 600 patients over a ten-day period. Patients from the surrounding communities will be transported in for the free dental care. This mission is the first humanitarian mission of its kind and is deployed with modern equipment and supplies to provide a full spectrum of dental care. For the duration of the mission, the dental team will provide dental treatments to include dental restorations (fillings), endodontics (root canals), extractions and dental prophylaxis (dental cleaning

BRAC 2005 recommends (172 Med 10) the consolidation of Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) and Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio into one medical region with two integrated campuses known as San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC)

Brooke Army Medical Center will serve as a world-class health science center for inpatient and ambulatory care, consisting of Graduate Medical Education (GME) & training, a Level 1 Trauma Center, and the only American Burn Association verified Burn Center within the DoD. The facility will be known as SAMMC-North.

Wilford Hall Medical Center, SAMMC-South, will serve as a large, full-service ambulatory care center with selected medical and surgical outpatient specialties servicing a large beneficiary and trainee population. It will host a premier Eye Center of Excellence.
