About the Program
The Women Veterans Health Care Program is an integral part of the Manhattan Campus of the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System. We pay special attention to women veterans with a focus on health promotion, disease prevention and management, and the emotional well-being of women veterans.
Women veterans who have received an honorable or general under honorable discharge from the military may be eligible for care. Usually there is no charge to receive care for a service-connected disability if you have CHAMPVA or if your income is below a certain amount. A DD-214 or VA medical card from any VA Medical Center will be necessary at the time of registration.
PRIMARY CARE is offered Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Physical exams include a full range of preventive health screenings and treatment. Shuttle service is available to Brooklyn Campus for mammography and breast clinic. Pharmacy dispenses prescribed medications. Patients are referred to a variety of health education classes and specialty clinics.
GYNECOLOGY CLINIC is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Services include pelvic and breast exam, cervical cancer screening, pap smear, contraception, management of menopause, surgical consultation and procedures, referral for obstetrical care, gyn oncology and infertility care excluding in vitro fertilization.
MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES include evaluation and treatment of conditions such as anxiety, depression, psychotic disorders, substance abuse and post traumatic stress. All patients are screened for military sexual trauma. Women's issues group, social work services, relaxation exercises and other support services are regularly available.
ANNUAL WOMEN VETERANS HEALTH CONFERENCE is held yearly in the spring alternating between the New York and Brooklyn Campus. This annual event provides women veterans the opportunity to network with others while learning about VA benefits and health resources.
Patients will be referred to other VA facilities or to the community for any service not available at the Manhattan Campus of the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System.
