Description: | The National Library of Medicine (NLM) began major funding for telemedicine-related activities in 1993 as part of the Federal High Performance Computing and Communications (HPCC) program. In 1996 NLM inaugurated the NLM National Telemedicine Initiative under the HPCC program. This conference brings together the NLM investigators active in telemedicine to discuss results obtained and lessons learned from their research projects under these two NLM initiatives. Although each contract has dealt with different aspects of telemedicine, the theme common to all is the evaluation of applications of communications and information technology to the implementation and performance of telemedicine activities. Assessments focus on the impact of telemedicine on health care in terms of cost, quality, and access. For more information, visit the Conference Invitation and General Information |
