History
The area around Godman has been used as a recreational area for settlers
of Dayton, WA, Columbia and Garfield Counties since the turn of the century.
The guard station was built as part of an administrative complex in 1933-34.
Description
Built in the 1930s, this two-story, wood frame structure is surrounded by
tall timbers such as grand fir, Douglas-fir, engleman spruce, lodgepole pine,
and sub-alpine fir, that hug the cabin’s walls and provide a sheltering
second roof of sweeping branches. It features three bedrooms, a living area,
kitchen and bathroom, and is furnished with three bunk beds, two single beds,
a couch and chair, and a table and chairs. During the summer months, visitors
may use the indoor flush toilet; otherwise an outhouse is located near the
cabin. The kitchen is equipped with a propane stove and refrigerator. Renters
will need to bring their own dishes, cooking/eating utensils and own pots/pans.
There are propane lights and heat throughout
the cabin.
Potable water is only available during the summer; in the winter, visitors
must bring plenty of water for drinking, cooking and washing. Horses are
allowed, and there is a barn approximately 200 yards up the hill from the
cabin. There is a picnic table close to the cabin for outdoor dining.
There is another structure on the site, a warming shelter used by the snowmobile
club, which is not available to the public for rent.
Water is currently unavailable at this site. An outhouse is provided nearby.
Renters should bring a supply of water for their stay.
