The 1980's: a decade of job growth and industry shifts

Although employment grew by nearly 19 million jobs during the 1980's, its strength was uneven. Three-fourths of the increase was in services and retail trade, while manufacturing and mining lost workers. This article examines employment growth by industry in the 1980's.
