It is with a sad note that today is the very last day the Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center is open. After 14 years and millions of visitors, the visitor center is closing because of a lack of funding. The Johnston Ridge Observatory (where the VolcanoCams are located) is already closed for the winter. The Observatory is not scheduled to reopen for the season until May, 2008.

The road to Johnston Ridge will remain open by the Washington State Department of Transportation until winter weather forces it to be closed for the winter. You are strongly encouraged to check the WA DOT web site for current road and weather conditions before making a visit. It would also be helpful to contact the nearest Forest Service office for any updates as well.
