Park Removes Final Building from the Beaver Basin
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has removed the last remaining abandoned building from the Beaver Basin.  The old garage formerly served the Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline Company when it operated a private resort on the shores of Beaver Lake, located in the center of the Lakeshore.

The emergency fire ban implemented August 16 within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore backcountry was  lifted on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. The lakeshore has received substantial rainfall that reduced the fire danger.

Step Back In History at Au Sable
The year was 1874.  Barbed wire and Levi jeans were patented in the U.S.  The “Impressionists” were painting their famous landscapes in France.  And the Au Sable Light Station was constructed, 12 miles west of Grand Marais, Michigan, a landmark that celebrates its 133rd birthday this month.

Did You Know?
On October 6, 1972, ceremonies in Munising marked the establishment of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, America's first national lakeshore. To symbolically link the park's two gateway communities of Munising and Grand Marais, water and sand was poured from two glass containers into a third.
