Are you a civilian DoD employee working in IT Management? Are you interested in sharpening your skills? Ask your supervisor about participating in the Department of Defense's IT Exchange Program.

The IT Exchange Program, or ITEP, is a unique professional development opportunity which enables outstanding DoD civilian employees the opportunity to polish their skill sets and gain new perspectives through firsthand exposure to industry best practices. Applicants must be a GS-11 (or equivalent) or above, working in IT Management, and able to serve on a 3 to 12-month detail with private industry. Participants will continue to receive DoD pay and benefits while learning on-the-job. The duties performed will be determined by the type of partner company selected for a specific assignment. After completing ITEP details, government personnel return to federal service with insights that benefit both the organization and the individual.

The IT Exchange Program also allows DoD to bring private industry personnel on board to learn more about defense IT programs and initiatives, and to share business best practices and expertise. IT Exchange opportunities range from support of DoD's daily business operations to maturation of our net-centric transformation capabilities. Areas of interest include IT Policy, Data Management, Net-centric Enterprise Services, Architecture, Information Assurance, Spectrum Management, Commercial IT Policy and Information Sharing. Interested individuals must be U.S. citizens, currently employed, and working in the IT Management field. Private sector IT management professionals may complete an initial 3 to 12-month assignment in the Federal Government, with salary costs typically paid by the private sector employer. Interested parties should speak with their supervisors about the benefits to both the individual and the company that may derive from a temporary ITEP detail in the Department of Defense.
