The National Park Service employs a diverse group of individuals to assist in the operation of over 370 areas. Over 120,000 individuals each year donate over 4,000,000 hours of service to the national parks. Young and old alike give their time and expertise to assist our paid staff in achieving our national mission.
The Student Conservation Association provides national and community conservation service opportunities, outdoor education and career training for youth. SCA volunteers and interns assist in national parks, forests, refuges, and urban areas in all 50 states.
The Geologist-in-the-Parks Program is a means to match geologists with National Park Service volunteer positions in the United States. We work with geology and environmental organizations to match National Park project needs with students, professional geologists, professors, and retired geologists.

Did You Know?
Dr. Harold S. Colton, co-founder of the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, was instrumental in the establishment of Wupatki National Monument in 1924. His work at Wupatki was influential in Flagstaff area archeology, and he was responsible for the name "Sinagua" assigned to local cultures.
