Welcome to OACBMRDD
All 88 Ohio County Boards of MRDD are preparing for the upcoming National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which is celebrated in October each year. Sponsored by the U.S. Labor Department Office, the theme for this year’s event is AMERICA’S PEOPLE, AMERICA’S TALENT. . . AMERICA’S STRENGTH!
“As County Boards of MRDD, this is what we do,” said Dan Ohler, Executive Director of the Ohio Association of County Boards of MRDD. “Our goal is for each individual, regardless of their ability, to be able to reach their optimum potential and become a productive member of our society.” Celebrating the successes of individuals with developmental disabilities is a way to showcase to the rest of Ohio and the United States what people are accomplishing.
We agree with U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. "Full access to community life for Americans with disabilities is imperative and this year's theme conveys the tremendous contributions that these Americans can make in the workplace," she said.
Ohler noted that people with disabilities play an important part in Ohio’s workforce. “We hear from employers on a regular basis that their best workers are ones who come to them from their local County Boards of MRDD. They show up for work on time every day, are happy to be there, and complete quality work,” he said. As a result, Ohio reaps the benefit of collecting income tax from these workers.
