Of the 762,782 persons arrested in nonmetropolitan counties in 2007, most (91.2 percent) were adults (persons age 18 and over).
In the Nation’s nonmetropolitan counties during 2007, juveniles (those under age 18) accounted for 9.4 percent of all persons arrested for violent crime and 19.4 percent of those arrested for property crime.
Individuals between the ages of 18 and 24 accounted for 28.9 percent of all persons arrested in nonmetropolitan counties in 2007.
Adults were most often arrested for driving under the influence (136,138) and for drug abuse violations (84,563). Juveniles were most often arrested for other (simple) assaults (9,049) and liquor law violations (8,817) in nonmetropolitan counties.
