Salem, OR - The Oregon Public Utility Commission meets Tuesday August 29, 2000 to consider rules to implement Oregon's electricity restructuring law, enacted by the 1999 legislature.

The meeting will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the Commission's Main Hearing Room at 550 Capitol Street N. E. in Salem.

The Commission initiated rule making in late 1999. The rulemaking process spawned lengthy negotiations involving consumer and environmental advocates, OPUC staff, commercial and industrial trade associations, power marketers, and Oregon's two industrial-owned utilities (IOUs)--PacifiCorp and Portland General Electric (PGE).

The Commission will consider the compromise proposal drafted by the coalition. The proposal will set the framework for how the state's restructuring process will move forward.

The rules will describe how statewide investments in low-income weatherization, and new renewable resources will be collected. What the portfolio of choices will be for customers of investor-owned utilities, how to present information on customer bills, and how each utility will participate in a competitive market.
