Utilities Pass Final Y2K Test With Flying Colors

Salem, OR - Oregon’s investor-owned utilities successfully completed the transition to the New Year without any Y2K disruptions to utility services and are now concentrating on making sure any potential delayed impacts are avoided. None have been reported.
"These successes mark the completion of the Commission’s multi-year effort to encourage regulated utilities to remedy any Year 2000 at-risk systems in a timely fashion," Commissioner Joan Smith observed. "Thanks to the excellent team-work and cooperation provided by investor-owned utilities and the DAS Year 2000 Project team, Oregon utility customers did not experience any Y2K related service disruptions. Coordination and reporting processes worked as planned. We are especially grateful to the hundreds of utility employees who worked in the trenches over the past three years."
The state’s regulated electric, telecommunications and natural gas utilities reported to the Commission’s staff during the December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000 transition period. Reports received indicated that utilities did not experience any Y2K related disruptions in utility services to their Oregon customers. These utilities also reported throughout the night that they were not able to observe any Y2K related disruptions in Western Europe or the various U.S. time zones that experienced the rollover before Oregon.
The operating status of all regulated utility systems was reported as being fully operational or "Green" to Oregon’s Department of Administrative Services Year 2000 Project team and to various Federal agencies.
The Commission feels confident that these efforts will serve Oregonians well for years to come.
