Salem, OR – Today the Oregon Public Utility Commission agreed to accommodate the need for additional telephone lines for a newly opened Dell Computer Corporation Call Center in Roseburg.

The decision provides Qwest with 2,000 numbers, or two blocks of one thousand numbers each from the 541 area code with an 817 prefix for the Dell facility. The 817 prefix is needed because it fits Dell’s numbering system requiring 7 before the four-digit station number for employees.

The Commission decision grants a waiver to a Federal Communications Commission requirement that phone numbers for Roseburg be at least 65 percent assigned, and be at least six months or less from being used up before additional numbers can be assigned. The Commission’s decision frees up the additional numbers needed in the future by the call center.

Roseburg will exhaust its assigned numbers in 39 months, and only 74 percent of the numbers are utilized.

The call center is Dell’s fourth sales call facility in the nation.
