Salem, Ore. The Oregon Public Utility Commission will travel to Central Oregon later this month to provide residents with an opportunity to find out and have a say about Oregon’s new area code by attending an upcoming Open House in Bend, Burns or John Day.

Available telephone numbers in the 541 area code are limited and expected to run out in early 2011.

Due to the time required to implement a new area code, the Public Utility Commission of Oregon (PUC) has opened an investigation to determine the best way to provide number relief. Affected customers are encouraged to comment and ask questions on the need for a new area code at any of 18 PUC hosted open house meetings throughout the state.

Members of the PUC Staff and industry representatives will be available to answer individual questions from the public during this time.

More information  is posted on the PUC’s website at www.puc.state.or.us.  Customers can also email their comments to PUC.541@state.or.us.  A decision is expected this fall.
