It is my pleasure to announce the call for applications for the 2007 President's Quality Award (PQA) Program.
Established in 1988, the PQA recognizes excellence in quality and productivity within the Federal Government. Since then, the award's character has reflected each presidential administration's management values. In 2002, the PQA was redesigned to recognize those agencies that best implement the objectives of President George W. Bush's Management Agenda (PMA).
This year we will continue to use award criteria that emphasize demonstrated program results as the key requirement for agency nominations. There will again be three separate award categories. These are: Category One Awards which recognize specific innovative and exemplary practices under the five Governmentwide Management Initiatives outlined in the PMA; Category Two Awards which recognize overall agency achievement in each of the five initiatives; and Category Three Awards which recognize agency performance in integrating the five management systems under the PMA.
All award submissions must be received no later than 5:00 p.m., EDT on Friday, August 10, 2007. The specific award criteria and application instructions are attached and will also be available electronically at www.opm.gov/pqa.
The Office of Personnel Management has been proud to administer this program since its inception. Over the last few years we have seen a growing interest in all three award categories. As agencies continue their considerable progress in implementing the PMA, I anticipate an increase in the number and quality of PQA nominations. I hope that you will strongly consider submitting your agency for recognition. Information concerning this year's PQA Award Ceremony will be forthcoming.
