Since software and computer systems in general are subject both to error and tampering, it is essential that voters who use computerized voting machines have some kind of a record of their
vote so that they know that their choices have been recorded correctly. It is a travesty of the
democratic system for one party or the other to have access to voting machine software that can
distort an individual citizen's vote. We desperately need safeguards against this sort of activity.
