Prescribed Fire
Each year, Fish and Wildlife Service staff use prescribed fire to improve wildlife habitat on approximately 63,000 acres of National Wildlife Refuge System lands throughout the Midwest*. In so doing, they also serve refuge neighbors. Managed burns on refuges and waterfowl production areas help wildlife and people.
*Average annual acreage for Minnesota, Wisconsin,Michigan, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.
