Unlike adults, children are rarely if ever disabled by back pain and in more than 50% of patients, a definable cause for the back pain can be found. If an underlying condition, such as a tumor or infection, is responsible for the back pain, early diagnosis may facilitate treatment and improve the eventual outcome.
