  • The number of persons arrested in the Nation's cities, collectively, decreased a slight 0.2 percent in 2005 from the previous year's figure; the number of persons arrested for violent crime rose 2.3 percent, and for property crime, declined 3.3 percent.
  • The number of juveniles arrested in 2005 rose 3.1 percent for violent crime and decreased 8.0 percent for property crime compared with the 2004 numbers.
  • The number of adults arrested in 2005 rose 2.2 percent for violent crime and decreased 1.4 percent for property crime compared with the 2004 data.
  • The number of persons arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter increased 8.0 percent during 2005 compared with the 2004 figure; the number of adults arrested for this crime rose 6.3 percent, and the number of juveniles arrested rose 27.2 percent from the prior year's data.
  • For the crime of arson, the number of persons arrested in 2005 rose 2.6 percent compared with the prior year's figure; the number of adults arrested for this offense increased 7.8 percent.
