  • Nationwide, the 2-year trend showed virtually no change in the number of persons arrested in 2005 compared with figures from 2004.
  • The number of juveniles (persons under age 18) arrested declined 3.1 percent in 2005 compared with the previous year's data.
  • The number of persons arrested for violent crimes increased 1.7 percent in the 2-year trend. The number of juveniles arrested for violent crimes was up 2.0 percent and the number of adults arrested rose 1.6 percent in 2005 when compared with the 2004 number.
  • For the crime of murder, the number of persons arrested increased 7.3 percent in 2005 when compared with 2004 data. The number of juveniles arrested for this offense was up 19.9 percent.
  • The number of persons arrested for property crimes decreased 2.9 percent in the 2-year trend. The number of juveniles arrested for these crimes declined 8.1 percent from 2004 to 2005.
  • The number of persons arrested for drug abuse violations in 2005 increased 4.1 percent from 2004 data. Instances of juveniles arrested for these crimes in 2005 increased 1.9 percent from the previous year's number. However, the number of adults arrested for these crimes in 2005 was down 4.8 percent.
