  • A comparison of national arrest data for 2005 and for 2001 revealed that the number of males arrested increased 1.7 percent and the number of females arrested rose 9.5 percent in that 5-year period.
  • For juveniles (persons under age 18), the number of males arrested was down 7.5 percent; the number of females arrested was down 2.2 percent in the 5-year trend.
  • The number of males arrested for violent crimes declined 1.4 percent in the 5-year trend, but the number of females arrested for these crimes increased 3.6 percent.
  • In the 5-year trend, the number of males arrested for murder increased 10.1 percent; however, the number of females arrested for this crime dropped 9.2 percent.
  • For juveniles of both genders, the number of persons arrested for murder increased in 2005 when compared with data from 2001, up 15.3 percent for males and up 19.7 percent for females.
  • The number of females arrested for property crimes rose 6.6 percent in 2005 when compared to 2001 figures; however, the number of juvenile females arrested for these crimes declined 8.8 percent.
  • The number of males arrested for drug abuse violations increased 13.5 percent, and the number of females arrested for these crimes was up 24.8 percent in the 5-year trend.
  • For juveniles, the number of females arrested for drug abuse violations was up 1.1 percent from the 2001 figure, but the number of males arrested for this offense was down 8.4 percent.
