What can we do at the South Slough Interpretive Center?
We have plenty of engaging activities for all ages!
Information Desk
There will always be a knowledgeable, helpful staff member ready to answer your burning questions about the South Slough Estuary at the Information Desk. South Slough has an array of informative and educational print resources available, as well as a wildlife sightings journal, plant identification photo guides, and reference books galore.
Friends of South Slough Bookstore and More
The Friends of South Slough operate a small gift and bookstore within the Interpretive Center. Here you can find field guides, t-shirts, posters, cards, and more!
Educational Film
Guests to South Slough are invited to view our award-winning documentary film, The Tide of the Heron. This 12 minute video showcases the flora, fauna, and ecology of the South Slough Estuary, and provides some insightful glances into our world.
Auditorium and Classroom
A new addition to the Interpretive Center in 2002, the auditorium is a beautiful and sheltered place to view the South Slough from spotting scopes and look for signs of birds, such as the piliated woodpecker. The classroom is located below, where many interpretive programs are held. Surrounding the auditorium is a balcony with benches, overlooking the South Slough. On sunny days, the Oregon Sand Dunes are included in this breathtaking vista.
Exhibits
The new exhibits at South Slough provide a glimpse into our natural and cultural history, with interactive displays including Estuary Soup and antique photographs of past residents.
