Current Year Over Previous Year Arrest Trends, Totals, 2004-2005

The FBI collects these data through the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.

General comments

This 2-year trend table provides the number of persons arrested for 2004 and 2005 and the percent change in the numbers between these 2 years. The table furnishes arrest statistics for persons of all ages and breakdowns for persons under age 15, under age 18, and adults.
Because some persons may be arrested more than once during a year, the statistics in this table could, in some cases, represent multiple arrests of the same person.

Methodology

This tables contains the data from all law enforcement agencies submitting 12 months of complete arrest data for both 2004 and 2005.

Population estimation

The FBI calculated 2005 state growth rates using revised 2004 state/national population estimates and 2005 provisional state/national population estimates provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. The FBI then estimated population figures for counties by applying the 2005 state growth rate to the updated 2004 U.S. Census Bureau data. Similarly, the FBI estimated 2004 population figures for counties by applying the 2004 state growth rates to the updated 2003 U.S. Census Bureau data. The 2004 state growth rate was based on the difference between the U.S. Census Bureau's 2003 revised population estimates and 2004 provisional population estimates.
