Arrests, Suburban Areas, of Persons Under 15, 18, 21, and 25 Years of Age, 2005

The FBI collects these data through the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.

General comments

This table provides the number of persons arrested in suburban areas, broken down by the following age groups: Under 15, Under 18, Under 21, and Under 25.
Because some persons may be arrested more than once during a year, the statistics in this table could, in some cases, represent multiple arrests of the same person.
Suburban area law enforcement agencies are defined as all agencies within a currently designated Metropolitan Statistical Area, excluding those agencies that cover principal cities as defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. (See Area Definitions.)

Methodology

The data used in creating this table were from all suburban area law enforcement agencies submitting 12 months of complete arrest data for 2005.

Population estimation

The FBI calculated 2005 state growth rates using revised 2004 state/national population estimates and 2005 provisional state/national population estimates provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. The FBI then estimated population figures for jurisdictions in suburban areas by applying the 2005 state growth rate to the updated 2004 U.S. Census Bureau data.
