Arrests, Nonmetropolitan Counties, by Race, 2005

The FBI collects these data through the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.

General comments

This table provides the number of persons arrested in nonmetropolitan counties in 2005 broken down by race. The table also shows the percent distribution of arrests between races and includes breakdowns for persons under 18 and persons over 18 years of age.
The totals provided in this table reflect only those persons arrested for which law enforcement agencies provided race information to the UCR Program; therefore, the totals may not match those shown in other arrest tables for nonmetropolitan counties.
The Nonmetropolitan Counties classification encompasses jurisdictions covered by noncity law enforcement agencies located outside currently designated Metropolitan Statistical Areas. (See Area Definitions.)
Because some persons may be arrested more than once during a year, the statistics in this table could, in some cases, represent multiple arrests of the same person.

Methodology

The data used in creating this table were from all nonmetropolitan county law enforcement agencies submitting 12 months of arrest data for 2005.

Population estimation

The FBI calculated 2005 state growth rates using revised 2004 state/national population estimates and 2005 provisional state/national population estimates provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. The FBI then estimated population figures for counties by applying the 2005 state growth rate to the updated 2004 U.S. Census Bureau data. Similarly, the FBI estimated 2004 population figures for counties by applying the 2004 state growth rates to the updated 2003 U.S. Census Bureau data. The 2004 state growth rate was based on the difference between the U.S. Census Bureau's 2003 revised population estimates and 2004 provisional population estimates.
