Trial Description

Purpose:

Selected vegetables- Sun's soup dietary supplement contains ingredients that may slow the growth of non-small cell lung cancer. It is not yet known whether selected vegetables-Sun's soup dietary supplement is more effective than a placebo in treating non-small cell lung cancer.

This randomized phase III trial is studying selected vegetables-Sun's soup dietary supplement to see how well it works compared with a placebo in treating patients who are undergoing supportive care (radiation therapy, surgery, or palliative care) for stage IIIB or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer.

Eligibility:

Eligibility criteria include the following:

  • At least 18 years old
  • No more than 2 months since diagnosis
  • Unwilling to receive chemotherapy
  • Able to eat solid food
  • More than 5 years since chemotherapy
  • For more information about the eligibility criteria for this trial, refer to the Health Professional version.

Final eligibility for a clinical trial is determined by the health professionals conducting the trial.

Treatment/Intervention:

Patients will be randomly assigned (have an equal chance of being placed) to one of two treatment groups.

Patients in group one will receive selected vegetables-Sun's soup dietary supplement by mouth once a day for up to 3 years.

Patients in group two will receive a placebo by mouth once a day for up to 3 years.

All patients will also receive radiation therapy, surgery, and palliative care for 3 years.

Quality of life will be assessed periodically for approximately 22 months. After finishing treatment, patients will be evaluated periodically.
