Gulf of Aden Rescue |

A small vessel filled with about 135 people floats in the Gulf of Aden, 25 miles off the coast of Somalia, just before capsizing on April 29, 2005. The USS Normandy, USS Typhoon and USS Firebolt and German frigate FGS Karlsruhe conducted a rescue operation at the scene of the accident. Ninety-four people were pulled from the water, and 89 survived. Five people were pronounced dead on scene. There are about 41 people unaccounted for. U.S. Navy photo |
