The Yellow Ribbon Fund
The Yellow Ribbon Fund was created in early 2005 to assist our injured service members and their families while they recuperate at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. Our mission began when the father of an injured Marine introduced two of our volunteers to staff at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval and they told us what needs were not met by other donors.
In little over three years contributions made through the Yellow Ribbon Fund have provided the following for injured
service members and their families: over 700 free rental cars spanning more than 35,000 days; over 9,000 free taxi rides;
over 2,800 free hotel room nights; 38 families have used our five apartments for almost 3,000 nights; hundreds of free
tickets to sporting games, concerts and plays, and hundreds of lunches, dinners, golf games, duck and goose hunts, fishing
trips, and other activities.
Yellow Ribbon Fund Now Has CFC number
In our first year of eligibility, the Yellow Ribbon Fund has been accepted as a participating organization in the Combined Federal
Campaign of the National Capital Area. This allows federal employees in the Washington, D.C. area to designate the Yellow Ribbon Fund to
receive contributions through payroll deduction. If you are a federal employee in the Washington, D.C. area, we encourage you to choose the
Yellow Ribbon Fund as one of your charities to support.
Our Combined Federal Campaign number is: 46855. The campaign will begin Sept. 1 and run through Dec. 15.
First Annual YRF/ANCC Golf Tournament
The First Annual Yellow Ribbon Fund/Army Navy Country Club Charity Golf Classic for Injured Service Members took place on Monday, July 21st. Of the 30 foursomes playing in the tournament, each included one or two service members.
The golf tournament began at 1:00 p.m. with a shotgun start and ended at 6:00 p.m. with refreshments, hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction, then dinner, a live auction, and awards. The tremendous success of the tournament was due to the hard work of co-chairs Commander David Tarantino, MD, USN, Richard LePere, Craig Birmingham, Doug Coppi, James Bugg, and Mark Robbins. Sharon and Kim Coppi organized the auction. Speakers at the dinner included Dr. S. Ward Casscells, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Dan Monahan, Club President of the ANCC, and Dan Nevins, Community Outreach Manager of the PGA Tour.
