Database Access

The national clearinghouse of data on the nonprofit sector in the United States

NCCS makes data available for non-commercial research purposes through our NCCS Data Web. Any registered user can create their own summary reports. (Users not wishing to register can find a wide variety of information in the State Profile and Table Wizard tools on the Statistics page.)

Registered users can also extract data for downloading into a variety of software database, spreadsheet, and statistical programs including dBase, Microsoft Excel, SAS, and SPSS (dBase or Excel tables can be also imported into Microsoft Access).

The File Overview page provides descriptions of the different types of databases NCCS maintains, as well as matching IRS Forms 990 (which show which variables are in each database), and Data Dictionaries (listing the field names and descriptions for each database).

A non-registered public user will be able to access only a few files. In order to extract data from the NCCS Data Web, users will need to submit a formal request for data (Word format or pdf format), a user agreement and payment. NCCS requires the formal request and user agreement to provide a price quote.

We strongly recommend that you review the NCCS Dataweb Overview, Getting Started, and NCCS Files Overview pages first.  It will only take a few minutes. The links are below.

The NCCS DataWeb can be accessed at http://nccsdataweb.urban.org/.
