Florida's Imperiled Species FWC has put together a site devoted to information about endangered species, threatened species, and species of special concern. On the Florida's Imperiled Species site you will find rules, regulations, listed species, and other information pertaining to these wildlife. Freshwater turtles Many species of freshwater turtles occur throughout Florida's inland waters. Concern was raised this year about a perceived increase in harvest of Florida's freshwater turtles. An FWC team is working on a long-term conservation strategy for Florida's amphibians and reptiles. To protect freshwater turtles while the FWC team works, a new rule was passed and is effective October 23, 2008 that will further limit freshwater turtle harvest. See our FAQs for more information. |
